GiG Gains Sports Betting License in Maryland – Crab Sports May Launch Soon

Gaming Innovation Group (GiG), a leading provider of iGaming technology, has expanded its reach in North America by obtaining new sports wagering licenses in Maryland. The iGaming tech provider plans to launch Crab Sports in May, was also granted a license in Pennsylvania, and previously secured operational permits in New Jersey and Iowa.

These licenses will allow GiG to launch new partner brands on its technology, strengthening its position as a top-tier sportsbook provider in the United States.

GiG Excited for the Maryland Growth

GiG’s General Counsel, Claudio Caruana, said that the company is excited about its expansion in regulated markets and that regulation will continue to support the industry’s growth.

“Having placed a strong focus on expansion in regulated markets, we’re understandably pleased with the confirmation of our licenses in two new US states,” said Caruana.

“Regulation will continue to drive the industry in North America as markets mature, allowing us to support and protect operators and their customers, establishing suitable, robust frameworks for sustainable growth.”

Crab Sports Maryland May Launch

The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency issued the operator license, which will see GiG launch its online sportsbook and app, Crab Sports in May. GiG also plans to leverage its experience in releasing new brands to establish a firm foothold in the state, which has a growing market for online gaming. Maryland generated $330 million with its current 10 retail and eight mobile sportsbooks in February 2023 alone.

According to GiG COO Marcel Elfersy, the company’s recent acquisition of new licenses in the online markets of Maryland and other states presents further chances for GiG to enhance the value offered to new and existing partners in the Mid-Atlantic region of the country.

“With our plans to open our new US hub later this year and having recently been shortlisted with EGR North America in the full-service platform provider of the year category, our new licensed status in these very attractive online markets creates further opportunity for us to add value for new and established partners in the region,” said Elfersy.

“We’re excited about the possibilities these new states provide, starting with the launch of Crab Sports in Maryland in May on our PAM and sportsbook.”

Strengthening partnership in Canada

The new licenses will also benefit GiG’s partners in Canada, further cementing its strong position in North America.

Earlier this year, GiG signed a deal with Casino Time Inc. to provide its award-winning platform, sportsbook, and omnichannel solution in Ontario. This marked the fifth operator to be powered by GiG in the region, with the supplier license granted by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).

According to the company website, Ontario is an expanding market expected to reach $2 billion in gross gaming revenue over the next three years, making it an attractive proposition for operators.

GiG’s expanding presence, as evidenced by the two newly acquired licenses, combined with its established track record of delivering industry-leading technology, positions it well to support the online goals of land-based gaming brands in the area, starting with their 10 Ontario locations.
